Many companies tell us that they struggle with automated testing of SAP Enterprise Portal applications and systems (now known as SAP Netweaver Portal). This is particularly true for those organizations that have attempted to use legacy script-based testing tools, primarily because despite the significant ongoing investment, tests developed with them are extremely difficult to maintain - especially when it comes to SAP Portal - regardless of how pretty the demo is!

I recently found myself staring at a pile of parts for a dollhouse I bought my daughter. As I sat there desperately trying to fit screw MM into hole H on board C and affixing it to bracket A, I realized that when I was looking at the gloriously assembled and complete product at the store, I had no clue what I was getting myself into. It didn’t help that my 2 year old was now circling me like a vulture over its prey, just waiting for her new toy to rise from this pile of parts into her new favorite play thing. It was then I truly understood why you should never trust a demo.
